Chicken and Turkey Meat

The Australian chicken and turkey meat industry is large with attractive high growth segments. It generated revenues of approximately $2.7 billion in FY2007 and is expected to grow at 2.8% per annum.  Higher growth of between 5.0-6.5% per annum is expected from further processed chicken and fresh value added products driven by a trend towards healthier sources of protein, demand for pre-prepared meals and product innovation. 

Poultry has significant advantages over other meat proteins in terms of sustainability and ‘carbon footprint’ which are driven by efficient feed conversion ratios.  These advantages have the potential to underpin strong volume growth rates of 3-5% per annum over the medium to longer term.
