Feed is specially mixed to ensure chickens receive the right amounts of vitamins and nutrients. This promotes good physical health within the chickens and ensures we produce nutritious and tasty meat for Australian consumers.
Feed is made up of approximately 90% grains including:
- Wheat;
- Sorghum;
- Barley;
- Soybean meal;
- Canola;
- Other oilseeds; and
- Legumes.
Whilst it is still a very widely believed myth in Australia, hormones are NOT added to chicken feed or in anyway administered to chickens. It is actually illegal to use hormones in chicken production in Australia and has been for over 40 years, so all chicken in Australia is free of any added hormones.
There are some antibiotics used in chicken feed and there are very strict practices around how these are used to ensure that there is no antibiotics present in the chicken meat by the time it is processed. These antibiotics are not harmful to humans and you can learn more about this process by visiting www.steggles.com.au/AboutUs/Policies.htm
